Desperate times call for desperate measures, and it doesn’t get more desperate than dating apps in 2024.
It has been well-documented on this site and The RELEVANT Podcast that dating apps are the bane of every single’s existence. The algorithms aren’t working like they used to, leading more and more people to get creative with finding love. Take Philadelphia resident Dave Cline for instance, who recently purchased a billboard to score a date.
Just saw this real billboard and you can’t tell me that there’s a better city than Philadelphia. pic.twitter.com/AexJR0AJSZ

In just one week, the $1,154 billboard has already had a big impact on Cline’s dating life. His Instagram page @date_dave_philly, listed on the billboard, has already received thousands of messages from people around the world, with more than 6,000 showing their support and interest.
“I’ve already thought about shutting it down a few times because it’s just too popular for me to handle,” he said. “I really was not expecting this type of reaction and support from it — it’s crazy, just insanity.”
“Dating apps just suck for the most part,” he said. “Even if you’ve paid for a subscription on a dating app to find people, it’s really hard to not internalize all those negative thoughts — like not only am I single, but now I’m undateable [according to the algorithm].”
