This Hoda Kotb Interview With Drew Brees About Helping Victims of the Pandemic Takes an Emotional Turn

Drew Brees is one of New Orlean’s most famous residents. The Saints quarterback, who is also a devout Christian, recently announced a $5 million donation to help people affected by the pandemic. As Brees notes in this interview with The Today Show’s Hoda Kotb, countless New Orleans residents are out of work facing financial hardships following COVID-19’s devastating impact on the city’s vital tourism industry.

The interview takes an emotional turn for Kotb, who was a longtime resident of New Orleans, toward the end when she and Brees discussed how contagious generosity can be.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget that even seasoned TV anchors, whose jobs require them to maintain poise even while reporting the most difficult stories, can be overcome by emotion. The video is a powerful reminder not only of the gravity of the situation we are all in, but also the humanity that unites us all.
