Timothée Chalamet + ‘Uncut Gems’ Director + Ping Pong = Take Our Money

Timothée Chalamet has been tapped to play the lead in Marty Supreme, a new biopic from A24 and Uncut Gems director Josh Safdie.

Marty Supreme is Safdie’s first project since 2019’s Adam Sandler-led Uncut Gems, as well as his first solo project since he and his brother, Benny, creatively separated earlier this year. The film is set in the gritty world of *checks notes* competitive table tennis.

Chalamet will portray professional ping pong player Marty Reisman, the “wizard of table tennis.” Reisman, who died in 2012, was a champion who started his career as a hustler in Manhattan, playing for bets and prize money. He won 22 major table tennis titles from 1946 to 2002, including five bronze medals at the World Table Tennis Championships. At 67, he competed in the United States National Hardbat Championship and became the oldest player to win an open national competition in a racket sport.

Marty Supreme is still shooting, but A24 announced on social media it’s “coming soon.”
