A ‘Scrubs’ Reboot Is In Development — Here’s What We Know

A reboot of Scrubs is officially in early development at ABC.

The show’s creator, Bill Lawrence, shared this week that he is currently working with 20th Television to bring the beloved sitcom back to life. However, this time around Lawrence won’t be the showrunner. He’ll be around to assist, but he’s currently got his hands full with both Shrinking and Bad Monkey on Apple TV+.

As of now, there are no deals in place with the original stars — although Zach Braff and Donald Faison gave us some hope when they launched their rewatch podcast, Fake Doctors, Real Friends, in 2020. The duo’s enthusiasm for a reboot is well-documented; Braff recently told Variety he’d jump at the chance to reunite with the cast for a limited series.

“The idea of getting back together with my friends and doing like 10 or 12 episodes…that sounds like a dream,” he said.

And back in 2022, Faison spoke at a panel in Austin about a potential reboot, saying that it all came down to scheduling.

“Here’s the deal: I think we all want a reboot and want to work together again but it couldn’t be a full season. Maybe like a movie or something we could shoot in a few months,” Faison said. “With everything Bill is doing now, he’s never going to be free again. If he finds the time, we’ll do it.”

For now, we’re just happy to hear that Lawrence and the rest of the crew are ready to scrub in once again.
