Andrew Garfield is having quite a season. From his Oscar nomination for tick, tick …BOOM! to his delightful return to the webs in No Way Home, the guy’s career is on fire, and it’s not slowing down. Next up is his first prestige TV role for the new FX limited series Under the Banner of Heaven, adapted from Jon Krakauer’s true crime bestseller, which follows the grim case steeped in religion.
Garfield continues his streak of spiritually tormented figures as Detective Jeb Pyre, a devout Mormon who starts to question his own faith as he investigates the brutal double murder of Brenda Wright Lafferty and her infant daughter. As it becomes clear that their deaths had ties to an extremist faction of the LDS Church, Pyre is forced to reckon with uncomfortable truths at the foundation of his own spiritual beliefs.
The show also stars Sam Worthington and Daisy Edgar-Jones, and will premiere on Hulu on April 28.
