Well, this sounds interesting. Fans of GLOW and The Hunt will be familiar with Betty Gilpin, who’s been cast as the lead in a new series for Peacock called Mrs. Davis. Deadline reports the show will be “an exploration of faith versus technology — an epic battle of biblical and binary proportions” — and Gilipin will play a nun who “goes to battle against an all-powerful Artificial Intelligence.” Well, you don’t have to twist our arm to watch this one.
The show is being written executive produced by Damon Lindelof (Lost, The Leftovers) and Tara Hernandez (The Big Bang Theory). Owen Harris of Black Mirror: San Junipero and Brave New World fame will handle directing duties for at least the first episode.
Gilpin got three Emmy nominations for her work in GLOW and is currently co-starring in Gaslit with Sean Penn and Julia Roberts. Next up, she’ll star in Three Women, based on Lisa Taddeo’s hit book.
Lindelof is well known for exploring themes like this, with The Watchmen, The Leftovers and Lost all delving into the liminal space between the spiritual world and the speculative tech. Hernandez has worked on both Big Bang Theory and its Young Sheldon offshoot, which has approached the theme from a slightly different angle as well. Definitely a show to keep an eye on.
