The fourth season of Abbott Elementary premieres tonight, and we can’t wait to see what shenanigans the teachers and students of Willard R. Abbott Public School get in to this year. Between the brilliant satire, the unfiltered humor and those lovable but chaotic teachers, it’s no wonder this show has become a fan favorite.
Part of what makes the show so brilliant is that the characters — as wild as some may be — are real people many of us recognize in our own lives. From the endlessly optimistic Janine to the tough-love Melissa, we’ve broken down the Enneagram types of everyone in the most accurate way possible.
Janine Teagues – Type 2 (The Helper)
This one is an easy layup. Janine lives to help and, if she’s honest, save the world, even when it’s a bit much. Her optimism and need to “fix” everyone and everything (even when it’s not asked for) are classic Type 2 energy. Overzealous? Maybe. But at least her heart’s in the right place.
Ava Coleman – Type 7 (The Enthusiast)
Ava might be one of the most chaotic 7s to grace our screens, and we are grateful. Always living for the next thrill (and her next moment of self-promotion), Ava embodies the fun-loving, freewheeling spirit of a 7 who’s allergic to boredom — and accountability.
Gregory Eddie – Type 1 (The Reformer)
Gregory’s obsession with rules, order, and things being just so? That’s a textbook Type 1 through and through. His frustration when things are even slightly out of place might make him seem uptight, but that’s what happens when you’re constantly chasing perfection.
Melissa Schemmenti – Type 8 (The Challenger)
Melissa’s no-nonsense, tough-as-nails attitude screams Type 8. She’s fiercely protective of her students and will throw hands (or bribe someone, when necessary) to get things done. Cross her at your own risk — she’ll stand her ground with a smirk.
Jacob Hill – Type 9 (The Peacemaker)
Jacob’s desperate attempts to avoid conflict and keep the peace peg him as the quintessential Type 9. He’s the guy trying to mediate drama when no one asked, and it’s clear his biggest goal is for everyone to just get along. That said, he can surprise you when pushed.
Barbara Howard – Type 6 (The Loyalist)
You don’t teach at the same chaotic school for literal decades if you’re not a loyalist at heart. Barbara’s steadfastness, reliability and unwavering commitment to her school, her faith and her way of doing things are Type 6 vibes to the core. She’s the glue that holds everything together, even when she’s suspicious of change. Stability is her middle name.
Mr. Johnson – Type 5 (The Investigator)
Mr. Johnson is the type to know everything going on at Abbott (and possibly the entire Philly school district?). His low-key, borderline cryptic observations and tendency to operate in the background scream Type 5. He’s always in the know and prefers to keep his cards close to his chest — but when he does share? It’s gold.
