Harrison Ford is embarking on his greatest adventure yet: his first ongoing TV series role.
Ford is set to star in Apple TV+’s new comedy series Shrinking alongside Jason Segel, who is producing the show with Ted Lasso producers Bill Lawrence and Brett Goldstein. The series focuses on a grieving therapist (Segel) who starts to bend the rules and tells his clients exactly what he thinks. By setting aside his trainings and civility, he makes some pretty big changes in lots of lives, including his own.
Ford’s character is Dr. Phil Rhodes, a down-to-earth, “blue collar” shrink who is a pioneer in cognitive behavior therapy. He shares a practice with two of his protégés, Jimmy (Segel) and Gaby. His character has also been recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s, which forces him to deal with overbearing friends, estranged family and his career.
This is the first regular series role for Ford. He’s known mostly for indie films — sorry, Indiana Jones films, which recently wrapped its fifth movie in the franchise. The 80-year-old actor has spent his nearly six decade career on the big screen, so it will be a welcome change to see him step into a TV role.
Ted Lasso has been a surprise hit over the last few years and a fan favorite for the way the show carries optimism and humor throughout the series. With Goldstein, Lawrence and Segel working behind the scenes on Shrinking, We’re sure this show will be another bright light for TV fans.
