The nicest man in comedy, Nate Bargatze, announced some big news today.
The show, set to tape at Nashville’s iconic Grand Ole Opry on Nov. 21, will feature a blend of stand-up, sketches, pre-taped comedy shorts and musical performances, all hosted by Bargatze. It’s like if Bargatze got to create his own Saturday Night Live, which makes sense considering he’s teaming up with a few SNL greats to make it happen.
Lorne Michaels, SNL’s legendary creator, is serving as a co-producer. Additionally, Bargatze will collaborate with Mikey Day and SNL co-head writer Streeter Seidell on the entire show. The trio previously teamed up for Bargatze’s hilarious “Washington’s Dream” sketch during his SNL hosting debut in October 2023.
“I’m extremely excited to be creating this special,” Bargatze said in a statement. “I have long been a big fan of variety, and we don’t see enough of it! I want to make a great show for families to gather around and watch together, and I couldn’t be in better hands than with this team.”
The special is yet another feather in Bargatze’s cap during a banner year. He’s currently the top-earning comedian worldwide, according to Pollstar, and continues to break venue attendance records with his Be Funny Tour. His fourth special, Hello World, became Amazon’s most-streamed original comedy special in its first month, and his Nateland Company is carving out a niche for family-friendly comedy content.
The holiday special will air this December on CBS and Paramount+.
