NBC is officially putting The Paper on the front page. (See what we did there?)
The Peacock comedy, a spinoff of The Office set inside a struggling Ohio newspaper, will make the leap to NBC’s primetime lineup this fall. The series premieres on NBC Nov. 10, where it will join St. Denis Medical on Monday nights.
“Knowing how much The Office was beloved by a broadcast audience when it aired on NBC, we wanted to give The Paper a similar opportunity to connect,” Lisa Katz, president of scripted programming at NBCU Entertainment, said in a statement.
The series debuted Sept. 4 on Peacock and quickly became the streamer’s second-biggest comedy launch ever, trailing only Ted.
Created by Office mastermind Greg Daniels and Nathan for You’s Michael Koman, the mockumentary follows the documentary crew that once shadowed Dunder Mifflin as they turn their cameras on The Truth Teller, a fading daily newspaper in Toledo that just happens to be owned by the paper company that acquired Dunder Mifflin. The humor is familiar—awkward workplace antics, endearingly flawed characters—but with the backdrop of another industry on life support.
Peacock has already renewed The Paper for a second season.
