‘Ted Lasso’ Is Coming Back — But Without Ted Lasso

After an emotional (and, let’s be honest, uneven) third season that fumbled its way to the finish line, Ted Lasso is apparently coming back for a fourth round—kind of.

According to reports, Apple TV+ is shifting the focus to AFC Richmond’s new women’s club, with filming set to begin in London this summer. MacStories’ Sigmund Judge broke the news on X, and AppleInsider reports that Warner Bros. has already picked up contract options for key cast members like Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift. Jason Sudeikis, however, has made it pretty clear he’s not interested in coming back—though let’s not pretend Apple wouldn’t throw a truckload of cash at him for a nostalgic cameo.

For fans, this news is… complicated. Expanding the Ted Lasso universe to include a women’s club? Great. Giving the franchise a fresh angle? Love that. But slapping “Season 4” on what is clearly a spinoff just to keep the IP alive? That’s where things get dicey. Season 3 already felt like a goodbye, and bringing the show back—without its main character—feels more like a brand play than a creative decision.

Still, if Apple TV+ can recapture the early magic (and, you know, write an ending that doesn’t feel like a group project gone wrong), this new direction could work. But please, no more Believe signs getting torn up—we’ve suffered enough.
