The Chosen’s Dallas Jenkins Is Developing a New Series for Amazon, ‘Joseph of Egypt’

Amazon’s Biblical Cinematic Universe is expanding—next up: Joseph of Egypt (yes, the Old Testament one).

The new series will come from The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins and his production company, 5&2 Studios, as part of their ongoing partnership with Amazon MGM Studios. According to the show’s official logline, Joseph of Egypt centers on “a man betrayed by jealous brothers who defies all expectations and rises to incredible power in Egypt, second only to Pharaoh. But when his past catches up with him, he is confronted with the ultimate test.”

The series is part of Jenkins’ broader deal with Amazon, which also includes exclusive U.S. streaming rights and theatrical releases of future Chosen installments. Jenkins is also developing another project focused on the life of Moses.

“We’re taking everything we’ve learned from The Chosen and applying it to future projects,” Jenkins told RELEVANT. “Every Bible story we tell will have the same approach—finding the humanity in it so that people can see themselves in the story.”

Joseph, he explained, was the natural next step.

“The Joseph story sets up the need for the law,” Jenkins said. “Moses is the response to Joseph’s story, and eventually, all of it points to Jesus.”
