All good things must come to an end, even The Righteous Gemstones.
“The Lord spoke to me and said it’s time to wrap this sucker up,” creator Danny McBride told GQ. “God told me it was time. That we had achieved what we needed to do.”
What really happened, McBride clarified, is that ending the series with season 4 felt “natural” and he had planned all along for the story to reach a satisfying end. And while McBride didn’t let any details slip about the upcoming season, last year’s casting call for skateboarders, BMX Riders and Civil War re-enactors lets us know that things are going to be outrageous.
The Righteous Gemstones tells the story of a world-famous televangelist family who has a long history of deviance, greed and charitable work. Despite constant bickering, Gemstone family ties run deep, and this season the family’s codependence is tested as they attempt to move forward without letting go of their storied past.
Season 4 will debut in March, though a specific release date has not yet been announced.
