Say goodbye to “Carpool Karaoke” and hello to @midnight.
Deadline has reported CBS is shaking things up by bringing back @midnight to replace the soon-to-be-departing “The Late Late Show with James Corden.”
The legendary improv game show that had us in stitches on Comedy Central from 2013-17 is making a comeback and taking over Corden’s 12:30 a.m. time slot. The best part? Stephen Colbert will be executive producing the new incarnation, so you know it’s going to be good.
For anyone unfamiliar with @midnight, let us give you a quick rundown. It’s a panel game show with a twist — instead of playing boring old trivia games, the contestants compete in a series of improv games inspired by the wild, wacky world of the internet. Think “Rapid Refresh,” where contestants have to pick an answer based on the latest meme or headline. Or “Hashtag Wars,” where players battle it out using tweet-themed jokes.
And don’t even get us started on the “Live Challenges” and “FTW (For the Win)” rounds. This show had it all, and we have a feeling the new version will be just as entertaining.
However, moving from Comedy Central to a mainstream channel will mean the less-than-appropriate content will have to change a bit. But producers have assured fans the format will remain the same.
