Agatha Christie’s influence continues to win. Apple TV has unveiled their first trailer for The Afterparty, a murder mystery comedy in which one member of a high school reunion party bites the dust and Tiffany Haddish is the sleuth who has eliminated no suspects.
In this case, the suspects are a who’s who of up and coming comedic talents, from Ilana Glazer (Broad City) to Sam Richardson (Veep) to Ben Schwartz (Parks and Rec) to John Early (Search Party). The season will have eight episodes and each episode will depict the same events from a different character’s perspective, apparently also shifting genre and moods to match that character’s vibe.
It’s no surprise that other studios are chasing that Knives Out energy, but Afterparty gets a boost for frontloading the comedic talent. Phil Lord and Christopher Miller — two of the busiest guys in Hollywood — are also involved, and their presence is usually a good sign. This one looks fun.
