Watch the First Trailer for FX’s Docuseries ‘The Secrets of Hillsong’

FX has released an official trailer for the upcoming four-part docuseries The Secrets of Hillsong, based on Vanity Fair‘s exposé.

The docuseries will trace the megachurch’s beginning, rise and recent scandals, which include sexual abuse allegations, moral failures and allegedly misusing church funds. The docuseries also includes interviews with former Hillsong congregants from around the world as well as the first public interview from Carl Lentz, the former Hillsong NYC pastor who was fired in 2020, and his family.

“You do not want to be in this seat,” Lentz says in the trailer. “I cannot stress it enough.”

Joel Chiodi, an executive producer of the docuseries, said the film would tell a “well-rounded and definitive story of Hillsong.”

“Because of these voices, along with unprecedented access to Carl and Laura Lentz, The Secrets of Hillsong offers new insights into how decades of scandal and corruption went unchecked within the church, and more importantly, at what it meant for the community left in their rubble,” Chiodi said.

The Secrets of Hillsong premieres on FX on May 19 at 10 p.m. ET/PT with two episodes, followed by two more episodes on May 26. All episodes will stream the next day on Hulu.
