Martin Scorsese’s new series The Saints will kick off this Sunday with an episode centered on Joan of Arc.
Earlier this year, Scorsese announced that in addition to creating his upcoming A Life of Jesus film, he would also host, narrate and executive produce a docudrama series about the lives of eight saints. Each episode focuses on a singular saint, including John the Baptist, Sebastian, Maximilian Kolbe, Francis of Assisi, Thomas Becket, Mary Magdalene and Moses the Black.
“I’ve lived with the stories of the saints for most of my life, thinking about their words and actions, imagining the worlds they inhabited, the choices they faced, the examples they set,” Scorsese said. “These are stories of eight very different men and women, each of them living through vastly different periods of history and struggling to follow the way of love revealed to them and to us by Jesus’ words in the gospels.”
Scorsese has long been interested in exploring faith through film, from The Last Temptation of Christ to 2016’s Silence. His Catholic faith has made a big impression on his movies, and now he’s bringing that passion to television, too.
The Saints premieres Sunday on Fox Nation, and will release weekly through December 8. Per the official press release, the series will be unveiled in two parts, with the final four episodes airing in April 2025 to “span the Holy season.”
