If you were miffed when the first Venom trailer didn’t show any of the titular villain’s famous fang-lined maw, be miffed no longer. The new Venom spot shows lots of Tom Hardy, lots of alien action, and an intense money shot of the iconic serpentine face.
Immediate impressions: This is going to be a pretty Tom Hardy-ish Tom Hardy part. His accent is on full display. Even as reporter Eddie Brock, he hulks around and brings his typical skepticism and charm and edge. Then, when the symbiote takes control and enters his body, he goes full hardcore mode.
It looks like the main conflict of Venom will be between Brock and Venom itself, caught in the middle of the temptation that comes with power and the altruistic urges of human responsibility.
Seems like the movie is presenting Venom as an anti-hero. The description for the video says he’s a “lethal protector.” We’ll find out where the movie comes down on the famous baddie when it hits theaters October 5.
