Virgin Made Shoes So You Can Always Feel Like You’re Flying First Class

This may be one of the weirdest charity auctions we’ve seen yet: the Virgin America First Class Shoes, which are supposed to make the one lucky wearer feel like they’re flying first class.

Literally. The shoes are made of Italian leather like the airline’s first class seats and are equpped with Wi-Fi, a TV screen, a seatbelt buckle (because safety first), mood lighting and a built-in phone charger.

Only one pair was created and they’re being sold on eBay to benefit Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that fights poverty by donating shoes and clothes to people in need.

The auction description refers to the shoes as “historic aviation memorabilia” and notes that the shoes will arrive in a custom-made plexiglass box with LED lighting included.

Chief Creative Officer at Eleven, the firm behind the shoes, told creativity-online:

Virgin America fliers are fashionable, sophisticated, and almost impossible to reach with traditional advertising. But we knew sneaker trends were very popular with our target audience. So we wanted to showcase the airline’s features in a unique way—so our target would actually take notice.

As of press time, the current bid was $1,350 and the auction doesn’t end until October 23.
