Who knew a Muppet could give solid dating advice?
On Friday’s new episode of “Chicken Shop Date,” host Amelia Dimoldenberg sat down with Sesame Street star Elmo (who of course “ate” vegetarian nuggets, as “Elmo has friends that are chickens.”) to find out his thoughts on everything from living in the moment to practicing patience about the things you really want in life. But it was his words of wisdom about love that really struck a chord with Dimoldenberg.
Toward the end of their date, Dimoldenberg asked Elmo, “Why do you think I’ve been single for so long?”
Elmo responded with some frankly insightful advice: “Elmo thinks you’re in your head too much.”
“You think so?” Dimoldenberg asked.
“Yeah! You’re a wonderful person,” Elmo said. “You’re kind, you’re funny, you’re smart, you’re beautiful, you know? Just accept love! Very important.”
Dimoldenberg then admitted that she had met someone recently — likely a reference to her viral “date” with Andrew Garfield — and shared that although it went well, she felt like she was in her head again, and “maybe sort of friend-zoned them before we could even begin.”
“Oh, Elmo sorry to hear that,” the Muppet gently replied.
“It was a great date, though,” Dimoldenberg said. “We’ve got a real chemistry ― you know, remember the word I taught you? I don’t know, we’ll see how it goes, but…”
“There’s always room for love,” Elmo interjected.
Well said, Elmo. Well said.
