You know what would be so awesome to have in real life? Giant monsters that come out of a little ball you keep on your belt that fight each other for human amusement, amiright?!?!
Pokemon is, as has been well-interrogated online, an insane concept, but nevertheless it’s one that has captured the imagination of children (and adults—we know you were on that Pokemon Go train a couple years ago) all over the world. The latest teaser for Detective Pikachu blends the wonder of Pokemon with their inherent bizarreness, depicting several real-life versions of the monsters that you will almost certainly see in your dreams tonight.
How about that Lickitung, huh? Or the Bulbasaur? Okay, the Psyduck is kinda cute, but yeesh, do we really want to imagine a world where a bunch of Mr. Mimes are walking around?
Thank goodness the Ryan Reynolds-voiced Pikachu is the main star of this one, because we can certainly tolerate him, but besides, the live-action Pokemon of Detective Pikachu are going to take some adjustment. The movie drops May 10. At least we have some time to prepare.
