The most recent episode of the reality singing competition American Idol featured an emotional moment when a contestant asked to lead the judges in prayer.
The young singer, who goes by “Just Sam”, got emotional when opening up about some of the struggles she’s faced in her personal life, and became overwhelmed with tears while singing Lauren Daigle’s “You Say.”
However, after the judges gave her a chance to compose herself and sing a new song, she looked over at Luke Bryan, Katy Perry and Lionel Richie and asked, “Can I pray with you guys? Is that OK?”
As they all held hands, she prayed, “Heavenly father, Lord, make my life brand new; right here, right now. With my friends and my new fam.”
Afterward, Bryan joked that they should all go get baptized. It was a powerful moment. And, it should be noted that Just Sam is an amazing singer—and yes, she’s going to Hollywood.
