The trailer for the remake of A Star Is Born was released yesterday, and while the story is notable enough, the teaser is generating more buzz for its unlikely lead pairing: Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga.
Cooper stars as superstar singer Jackson Maine (heck of a name, also falls into the Indiana-Jones formula of “first name is a place, last name is real simple”), while Gaga stars as struggling artist Ally. Cooper’s character coaxes Ally into a newfound confidence, and the two begin a love story as they navigate fame and musicianship.
The most startling aspect of the new ad is how good of a singer Cooper seems to be, and how good the two sound together. For the movie, the two performed as a duo at Coachella. And to her credit, Lady Gaga looks to be a fine actress (remember when she was on American Horror Story?).
A Star Is Born has seen a few iterations. The original is from 1937, about an actress and a fading Hollywood star, and there have been two remakes, one in 1954 with Judy Garland, and one in 1976 with Barbra Streisand and Kris Kristofferson.
