Watch Chris Pratt Tell Colbert About the Christine Caine Quote That’s Helped Him Survive Hollywood

Last night, Chris Pratt was a guest on The Late Show, and Stephen Colbert asked him about going on “The Daniel Fast.”

The biblically-based diet comes from the book of Daniel, and involves eating only fruits and vegetables while also dedicating time to prayer. But, the conversation soon turned to Pratt’s spiritual life and the other lessons he took from the book of Daniel.

Colbert asked Pratt if, as someone in the public spotlight, he ever felt like the prophet Daniel, who survived the lion’s den with God’s help. Pratt said he recently heard a message in church that has helped him gain a healthy perspective on being a celebrity in the public eye.

Pratt said, “There’s this great quote, that I actually heard in church, which was, ‘If the spotlight that is shining on you is brighter than the light that comes from within you, it’ll kill you.’”

Though Pratt couldn’t remember the name of the teacher who said it in the moment, he promised to update followers on social media after the show.

As he noted on Twitter this morning, it was Christine Caine who said, “If the light that is within you is not greater than the light that is on you, the light that is on you will destroy you.”

Pratt has been open about his Christian faith, and frequently uses interviews as opportunities to share about the impact it’s had on his life.
