Watch Mark Wahlberg Explain What He’s Giving Up for Lent

Like millions of people all over the world, Mark Wahlberg began his observation of Lent on Ash Wednesday. Wahlberg is a devoted Catholic, and it looks like the priest really went to work on his forehead, which has a serious cross.

But even more serious is Wahlberg’s own commitment. He says that instead of giving things up for Lent, he plans on “doing more.”

“More love, more peace, more acceptance, more caring and more kindness. Have a beautiful Lenten season, God bless you all, see you on Easter. Love you.”

This makes it sound like he might be giving up social media for Lent but, well, who can say? Wahlberg isn’t one for half-measures. He spoke to RELEVANT last year and explained that he gets up at 2:30 every morning to spend time in prayer.

“There are so many things that I think about that I pray about,” he says. “Those that are less fortunate, those that don’t have God in their life and then all the responsibilities that I have as a husband, as a father. There are a lot of things that I need help and guidance on. I can lock in on what’s important and what I need to focus on and then, especially, express my gratitude.”
