If you read RELEVANT, you know we’re fans of singer/songwriter Thad Cockrell. Over the years, we’ve covered his band Leagues, as well as a number of his solo projects (if you missed our podcast with him this week, check it out). Well this week, a much larger audience got introduced to his infectious alt-pop music thanks to a lucky break in a hardware store. Jimmy Fallon was on a shopping trip when “Swingin'” came on over the speakers and was immediately hooked (how could he not be?). He looked the song up and, well, let him tell you what happened next.
I’m sending @jimmyfallon my therapy bill. He broke my mind. 😂😘🤯 Jimmy @Shazam’d my song in a hardware store & invited me to play @FallonTonight w/@theroots for Tues Jan 26. @questlovehttps://t.co/Q5L66u8AAA#IfInCaseYouFeelTheSame #JimmyFallonTheKingOfTheUncynical pic.twitter.com/abM4b1BVXg

Talk about a lucky break. Extra lucky, actually, since Cockrell — who’s been in the music game for a while — told the Tennessean that he’s been thinking about hanging up the music gig to explore some other options. Good thing he didn’t do that before Fallon came calling, inviting Thad to jump on with the Roots for a Tonight Show performance of “Swingin’.” Check it out below. See the song that blew Jimmy Fallon’s mind!
That’s not all. The Jimmy Fallon bump has sent Cockrell’s song soaring on the charts, up to the very top spot! Equally exciting for Cockrell, no doubt, he was one of our guests on this week’s episode of the RELEVANT Podcast. Listen now!
