Jeopardy! isn’t usually known for tugging at the heartstrings but the last few months of longtime host Alex Trebek’s frank discussion of his battle with a bleak cancer diagnosis have lent the show an extra level of pathos. And on Monday, that extra level got the usually even-keeled Trebek to choke up a little and might just do the same for you.
For his Final Jeopardy! answer, contestant Dhruv Gaur used his shot to get innovative.
“We love you, Alex!” wasn’t the answer judges were looking for, and Gaur’s answer cost him almost 2,000 dollars. But can you put a price on a meaningful, human moment like this?
“That’s very kind of you,” said Trebek, fighting back tears. “Thank you.”
