
The group behind the Mars One mission has said that more than 200,000 people have submitted applications to become some of the first people to visit Mars—permanently. The Mars One foundation plans on notifying individuals who have made it to the second round of the application process soon in preparation for a 2025 one-way voyage to the Red Planet. The “lucky” astronauts will live full-time on a base on Mars, essentially becoming guinea pigs in an effort to see if our inter-galactic neighbor could one day sustain communities of humans. The project, which has already teamed with technology and engineering companies like Lockheed Martin, isn’t cheap. To help fund the journey to another world, the foundation plans on selling the rights to a reality TV show that will follow the brave space travelers on their journey to their new Martian homes.
