The Obama administration formally rejected the controversial Keystone XL oil pipeline. The pipeline was supported by labor unions and Republicans lawmakers because it would bring oil from Canada’s Alberta oil sands to refineries in the Gulf of Mexico, but was opposed by environmentalists who say it will put water supplies in Nebraska at risk.
According to the Forbes article:
The Obama Administration decided against allowing the pipeline to go forward given a short time-frame to determine whether the planned route fit its requirements, according to the release. Nebraska environmentalists have argued the pipeline could pollute aquifers in the area and render water undrinkable.
