Egypt to Lift “State of Emergency”

The decades-old “state of emergency” in Egypt is set to be lifted on Wednesday, the one-year anniversary of the uprising against former President Hosni Mubarak.

Egypt’s military ruler, Field Marshal Hussein Tantawi, made the announcement and said it will still apply in “certain cases.” The country has been under a state of emergency almost continuously since 1967.

The military council has also agreed to step aside after a presidential election in June.
