New Report Reveals Americans Waste 40% of Their Food

A new study from the National Resources Defense Council says that Americans waste 40% of their food every day, totaling $165 billion worth of uneaten food every year.  Some of the waste occurs in private homes, where leftovers are trashed, and some occurs in grocery stores when products are not up to selling standards. And it is never just food that is wasted, but the production costs, fuel energy in transportation and finally landfill space.

From the article:

The NRDC says that if waste was reduced by just 15 percent, we could feed 25 million people for a year. The United Kingdom launched an awareness campaign that helped cut back on waste, but the amount of edible food that simply gets tossed in the garbage is still astounding.
