This morning, I was able to have breakfast with Tom Larson, one of the founders and the current director of Healing Waters International. These guys are doing important work, setting up sustainable water purification systems in impoverished (mostly urban) parts of the world. Why do outfits with such noble purposes ever lack for money while Hummers and Wiis multiply? (and I mean no disrespect to the Wii – I’d like to have one, though I don’t much know what I’d do with a Hummer, other than look dorky in it)
Since most non-profits depend on this time of year for a large chunk of their donations, it got me thinking about a very cool kind of Christmas list. If I could pick a few advocates for justice, a few good organizations who would get all the money they needed dumped on them this holiday season, who would it be? There would be many, but here are several:
