Now over 10 years old, YouVersion is still growing. The popular Bible-reading app reported that on New Year’s Day, over 1 million people subscribed to the app’s Bible Plan service, which pairs daily Bible passages with devotional content plus audio and video touches. There are 90-day, six-month and one-year plans, too.
YouVersion founder Bobby Gruenwald told The Christian Post the app saw 2,500 new Bible plans in 2018. Most of these plans come through partnerships with outside organizations who write the plans and publish them through YouVersion. Many of the plans are available in languages aside from English.
The 1 million new subscribers is a stunning 62 percent increase for YouVersion year over year. On an already-popular popular goal-setting day like January 1, this is significant. Gruenwald didn’t speculate as to what might have caused the uptick, but YouVersion’s recent emphasis on international outreach might be playing a large factor.
“Over the years, we’ve added several features focused on developing a habit of reading or listening to the Bible every day,” Gruenewald told The Christian Post. “We’re encouraged to see Bible Plan subscriptions continue to increase year after year, and we’re so grateful for our partners who make their content available on the Bible App.”
