Short answer: nobody knows. Things are looking less certain than they did a few days ago, when the U.N. was all but unanimous in their approval of a U.S. military response to Syria’s alleged use of chemical weapons on its own people. U.S. inspectors feel confident that Syrian President Bashar al-Assad was behind the attack, but they’re not quite sure how to prove it—and without proof, and international community is wary of a direct response. U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron has been a staunch supporter of military action, but he’s facing opposition from the Labour Party, who staged a dramatic demand for a second vote on U.K. intervention, despite the fact that the U.K. claims to have proof that Syria has used chemical weapons as many as 14 times.
Ultimately, President Barack Obama has only said that he’s still making up his mind about the matter, which means we’re all playing the waiting game for the time being …
