
The Atlantic has put together this interesting breakdown of just how Americans are warming up to the idea of soccer (or “football,” or whatever). While this year’s World Cup is getting record ratings from American households (the US’ match against Ghana last week was ESPN’s most-watched soccer game ever, unless Sunday’s match against Portugal beats it) soccer itself is still barely pulling in ratings. It seems Americans like the World Cup more than they like soccer. Or, as The Atlantic puts it, “Soccer isn’t becoming America’s new baseball.
