Baltimore Police Say Gangs Are Threatening to ‘Take Out’ Officers Following Protests

The Baltimore PD issued a press release today saying that several gangs “including the Black Guerilla Family, Bloods, and Crips have entered into a partnership to ‘take-out’ law enforcement officers.” The police department says it considers the information a “credible threat,” telling agencies to “take appropriate precautions to ensure the safety of their officers.” The release from police comes after they made 35 arrests as pockets of violence broke out during demonstrations this weekend, where protestors gathered in response to the death of Freddie Gray. Police said they believe “outside agitators continue to be the instigators behind acts of violence and destruction.” Six officers were also injured.

Protestors are seeking answers as to how Freddie Gray—who was arrested two weeks ago after he allegedly “fled unprovoked upon noticing police presence”—mysteriously died. After being arrested and put into a police van, Gray suffered a severed spine and crushed vocal box. He died from the injuries just days later. Questions have been raised as to not only how he sustained those injuries, but also how police responded. A video shows them dragging a visibly injured Gray into a van while he screams in pain. And despite requests for medical assistance, officers did not administer any in the van. The officers involved in the case have been suspended while it is being investigated …
