The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery (or TIGHAR, for short/awesome) set out last month for what was going to be the biggest, deepest and most unstoppable search for Amelia Earhart of all time. They had reason to believe that Earhart and her navigator, Fred Noonan, had crash landed into the steep coral reefs off the island of Nikumaroro, and were not going to let anything deter them from getting down there and finding them. Except for, maybe, some technical issues. And the fact that what they thought was plane wreckage was a coral reef. And that, according to Patricia Thrasher, it just sort of sounds like they just got sick of looking, “After discussion and analysis of the results so far, they have decided that there is very little point in extending the trip,” Patricia Thrasher, the group’s president, said. In other words, “Eh, the plane’s in the ocean somewhere” …
