Amid recent public criticisms of Christian leaders in Washington and proclamations of faith in politics, Fox & Friends invited Hillsong founder Brian Houston to speak on the divisions of America today and the appropriate response people of faith should have to attacks online or in the media.
Houston said: “I think Christians are an easy target sometimes. Jesus taught to turn the other cheek, which is a little different than others. We all speak out of what’s going on in our heart, so when people start making potshots at other people that are uncalled for or unfair, it really shows what’s inside of them.”
The pastor and author of the new book There Is More went on to offer his thoughts on the modern Church. For Houston, the modern Church is built to be resilient.
“Christianity has always been attacked,” he said. “The message of Jesus is strong. We don’t have a lot to fear. The Church is resilient, it’s going forward. It’s full of young people who are hungry for God and hungry for the things of God. I don’t think we should get too distracted. Jesus said problems will come, trouble will come, persecution would come. The Christian faith is great news, and it’s great news for people today. If we keep focusing on that great news—His name’s Jesus, He has so much for people—we don’t have to be too concerned for people who chip away from the outside.”
