The British Government Won’t Allow Their Research Vessel to Be Named ‘Boaty McBoatface’ Despite Vote

The very principle of democracy is being threatened in the U.K. Recently, Britain’s National Environment Research Council launched an online poll, where users could vote on the name of a new, state-of-the-art, $300 million research vessel. Thousands of votes were cast, and the voice of the people—the very people paying taxes to fund the construction of the ship—had proudly and boldly spoken: The vessel shall be named “Boaty McBoatface.”

Even though the naming selection process had been clear, the tyrannical forces at the Environment Research Council may now override the will of the good people of Britain by rejecting the name.

According to reports in the BBC and Newsweek, government officials aren’t big fans of “Boaty McBoatface” and will likely select a new name. Obviously—and for good reason—people have found this blatant disregard for democracy a complete an utter outrage.
