A Zoo Will Name a Cockroach After Your Ex and Feed It to an Animal

Love and Valentine’s Day are supposed to be all about heart-shaped candies, bouquets of roses and intimate dinners for two. But let’s face it, not all of us have a happily ever after with our significant others. For those who want to take a more humorous approach to moving on from their ex, the San Antonio Zoo has got your back.

Introducing the “Cry Me a Cockroach” fundraiser, where you can name a cockroach after your ex for a $10 donation, and watch as the zoo feeds it to one of their animals. It’s a cold, yet direct message that you’re no longer interested.

If creepy crawlies aren’t your thing, don’t worry — you can also opt for a vegetable for $5 or a rodent for $25. And for those with particularly persistent exes, there’s a $150 upgrade that includes a personalized video message of the animal devouring the named item.

The fundraiser not only provides a form of catharsis but also supports the zoo’s vision of securing a future for wildlife in Texas and around the world. And you won’t be the only one stooping to this level of pettiness. Last year, the event received over 8,000 donations from all 50 states and 30 different countries.

To participate, simply submit your ex’s name online before Valentine’s Day and receive a digital Valentine’s Day card showing your support for the zoo. If you’re feeling bold, you can even send the ex a digital card informing them of their newfound fate.

So, don’t let a sour breakup ruin your Valentine’s Day. Instead, channel that energy into supporting a good cause and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing that your ex has been devoured by a zoo animal.
