Chris Christie Bans ‘Gay Conversion Therapy’

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has been a mean streak of massive legislation lately. Friday, he expanded his state’s medical marijuana program (New Jersey’s sick kids can now get edible marijuana) and vetoed a ban on a certain brand of assault rifle, saying it over-reached its bounds. And now, today, he has “reluctantly” signed a bill forbidding so-called “gay conversion therapy” in his state. Gov. Christie has expressed concern about this bill’s effects on how parents raise their children, but said that research has made it clear that this sort of therapy poses “critical health risks including, but not limited to, depression, substance abuse, social withdrawal, decreased self-esteem and suicidal thoughts.” He went on to say that “I believe that exposing children to these health risks without clear evidence of benefits that outweigh these serious risks is not appropriate.” According to ABC, Governor Christie has made it clear in the past that he does not believe homosexuality is a sin.
