A measure known as “The Brady Amendment” has received enough signatures for it to be placed on the ballot this November in Colorado. The measure would ensure that “unborn human beings” would be recognized as part of the Colorado Criminal Code and Wrongful Death Act. The amendment was filed by a woman named Heather Surovik, who was recently struck by a drunk driver while she was 8 months pregnant. Her unborn son, Brady, was killed in the accident. Under state law at the time, prosecutors could not charge the driver with a crime related to Brady’s death.
