
A federal court has ruled that the Texas law that requires voters to present a photo ID to election officials before being allowed to vote is unconstitutional, in that it lays an undue burden on the poor, who are less likely to have a form of identification and, thus that it puts “strict, unforgiving burdens on the poor.” It’s an important decision in what has become a contentious political issue this election season: a push, largely by Republicans, to combat voter fraud by imposing stricter requirements on voter registration.
