
License plates are the source of a strange amount of controversy in this wild country, and Georgia’s just released a new one that is upsetting a lot of people. This new vanity plate has a Confederate flag emblazoned on it, and its proponents say the flag is a proud part of the South’s legacy. Of course, there are those for whom the Confederate flag is a reminder of some of the darker chapters in the South’s history. As the Atlanta Journal-Consitution reports:
A spokesman for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference said Tuesday that the state should not have sanctioned the battle emblem to appear on a Georgia tag. “To display this is reprehensible,” said Maynard Eaton. “We don’t have license plates saying ‘Black Power.'”
