They say no good deed goes unpunished. For the last 25 years, Anthony Cymerys—better known as Joe the Barber—has been giving homeless people in Hartford, Conn., free haircuts. Well, almost free. Cymerys does ask for one thing in exchange for his barber services: a hug. But now, after Cymerys has spent nearly every Wednesday for the last two and a half decades in Bushnell Park providing the haircuts, city officials are pulling the plug. According to this story, local residents have complained of sanitation issues with the operation and complain that Joe the Barber is not actually a licensed barber. Health department officials say they are working to find a solution to allow Cymerys to continue his services to the homeless in a more controlled environment.
