A Horrible Vet Allegedly Kept Dogs Alive for Transfusions

A very strange story is breaking in Texas, where a veterinarian named Dr. Lou Tierce is being accused of talking a family into letting him euthanizing their dog, only to secretly keep the dog alive in inhumane conditions to perform secret blood transfusions for an unknown purpose.

Last year, Marian Harris took the family dog, Sid, to the vet for what they thought was a mild gland issue. The condition worsened to the point where Sid had trouble walking, and Dr. Tierce told the Harris family that putting Sid to sleep was the right course. The family sadly agreed, and Dr. Tierce told them he’d euthanized Sid. But then, six months later, a former employee of the Camp Bowie Animal Clinic named Mary Brewer called Marian and told her that Sid was being kept alive, in a urine and feces-covered cage, for blood transfusions.

The Harris family promptly rescued Sid and took him to another vet, who said he’s showing signs of abusive treatment, but was certainly in no need of being put to sleep. So Sid is back where he belongs, and Harris told CBS that “The betrayal is so incredibly intense that nothing you have prepares you for the emotions. There’s anger, there’s joy that you have your dog back, there’s betrayal of this intense trust. And so it’s just really hard to camp on one particular emotion.” In the meantime, prosecutors are discussing criminal charges …
