For the third straight year, the “Shift Your Shopping” campaign wants to remind holiday shoppers to use their purchases to make a difference. And now, they’ve got Kevin Bacon himself as a spokesperson. Along with the “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” idea of community connectivity the actor brings to the campaign, he’s also the star of this goofy PSA parody encouraging consumers to shop local.
The campaign is a partnership with Causetown, which has identified charities that local stores—not big box chains—will make a donation to a with any purchase during the shopping surge from Saturday to Thursday. Bacon said that the idea of supporting local retailers and donating to good causes made him want to be a part of the campaign, telling CNN, “It’s something that has always been important to me—being able to go and know the people, and know the store, and have a personal connection to the store and the people who work there” …
