At least 160 died when a newly built church building collapsed in the middle of a service this weekend. Scores had gathered at Reigners Bible Church International for an ordination ceremony for one of the church’s founders, who was being named bishop.
According to reports, the metal structure that held up the roof began to collapse during the service, leaving many unable to escape. The government has told reporters that they will investigate to see if building codes and construction standards were upheld.
It’s not the first time a building collapse has killed dozens of church-goers in the country. In 2014, 116 were killed at Synagogue Church of All Nations when a guest house collapsed.
