In an effort to be more environmentally conscious, Starbucks announced it will not offer plastic straws in any of its stores around the world by 2020. Starbucks estimates that doing so will eliminate over 1 billion single-use plastic straws every year.
Customers will instead use a strawless lid for cold drinks that would normally require a straw.
Starbucks is the first global company to ban plastic straws so far. This comes after Seattle, Washington, where Starbucks is rooted, banned single-use straws and utensils at restaurants.
