New Human Rights Watch Report Condemns U.S. Drone Strikes

A new report from international NGO Human Rights Watch examines several specific cases in which U.S. drone strikes killed civilians in Yemen, and alleges that the Obama administration may be guilty of war crimes. The report, which has been released before a debate at the U.N. about the use of military drones next week, suggests that the United States violated international law in the authorization of six specific drone attacks that killed at least 52 civilians. HRW says that in several cases when fatal drone strikes were used, that the U.S. failed to identify the “imminent threat” of the targets. The report also says that that after attacks resulted in the deaths of civilians, the victims were not compensated in any way. The White House is yet to respond to the allegations in the 97-page report, which you can read here
